Experience Artists Working Outside "En Plein Air" in Camas
In the 1800s, the invention of the portable easel enabled artists to pack up their supplies, get out of their studios and capture beautiful landscapes, flowers, birds, and people in natural settings. It was a revolutionary concept that led to a movement called “En Plein Air”, or “Plein Air”. It also set the stage for artistic events where artists gather in public places to share ideas, motivate each other, and educate the public about their techniques.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to witness artists creating masterpieces live in an educational and inspiring setting.
The Plein Air movement is still active today in the U.S. - especially in the beautiful outdoors of the Pacific Northwest - and you have the opportunity to experience it first hand today in Camas. “Plein Air in the Heart of Camas” will feature artists from 9 am to 4:30 pm positioned along 4th Ave to demonstrate their talents and creativity. Finished paintings will be displayed at the Camas Gallery tonight from 5 to 8 pm. You will not only have the opportunity to watch artists work and ask questions about their colors and techniques, but also vote for your favorite painting!
Other activities tonight include:
Kids’ coloring contest, chalk art, clay and play-doh (at the Downtown Camas Association table near 4th & Birch)
Elida Field’s Art, Women & Wine artists will be in various locations throughout downtown for a chance to meet the artists, enjoy the art, and enter to win prizes from participating merchants.
Second Story Gallery will feature a fiber art show "What's Blue With You?"
Truly Scrumptious cookies will be hosting a “painting” cookies session in Arktana.
There will be live local music throughout town - be sure to drop in on some of the shops and restaurants that will be open.
All paintings will be auctioned off at the Dinner in White on the Columbia on September 12th to benefit the Camas Washougal Mural Project. The People’s Choice Awards based on your vote will also be presented at the dinner.

ViewHomes™ grew out of our passion for nature, beautiful surroundings, and peaceful environments. Starting together in an urban environment, over the years we've gravitated towards areas with smaller populations and less density. We now enjoy our lifestyle in a rural environment, but with close proximity to metropolitan areas where we appreciate all the amenities of fine restaurants, shopping, and an easy drive to an international airport.
Living in ViewHomes™ is like having “elbowroom for the soul”.
